The Piper Museum Lock Haven Community

Located in rural central pennsylvania, Lock Haven began in 1833 as a timber town and a haven for loggers, boatmen, and other travelers on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River and the West Branch Canal. Resource extraction and efficient transportation financed much of the city's growth through the end of the 19th century. In the 20th century, Piper Aircraft Company, Lock Haven University, and Hammermill Paper Company, along with many smaller enterprises, drove the economy. Located in Clinton County, Lock Haven is 27 miles south West of Williamsport and 38 miles north east of State College, PA. The 2000 census lists the population at 9,149.

The city has three sites on the National Register of Historic Places —a significant pre-European archaeological find, a Victorian-era museum, and an historic district with a mix of 19th- and 20th-century architecture. A dike and levee, completed in 1995, protect the city from flooding. While industry remains important to the city, about a third of its workers are employed in education, health care, or social services.

Heisey Museum Lock Haven.The museum is located in a restored two-story Victorian house, built about 1831. Period rooms are filled with furnishings and local memorabilia.
Sones Farm and Home Museum A history of the areas farming and logging industry
Thomas Taber Museum chronicles the history of Williamsport region from American Indian occupation through 20th century industry and life. Exhibits include an American Indian gallery, a Fine and Decorative Arts gallery, 19th century period rooms, and the Shempp Model Train exhibit, featuring over 300 toy trains.
